The Socio-Environmental Research Team of the Institute of Environmental Sciences (Jagiellonian University) is an interdisciplinary group of specialists in the fields of nature conservation, social sciences and environmental education.

Our activity is guided by the mission of combining scientific, education and science communication work, as well as establishing cooperation with a wide range of people and institutions concerned with environmental issues.

We invite you to contact us if you are:

1. A scientist interested in cooperation in interdisciplinary socio-environmental research projects. The scope of research conducted by our team is very wide, and includes, e.g.

  • Single-use plastics circular economy
  • The role of contacts with nature, place attachment and emotions in shaping pro-environmental behavior
  • Transformations of the socio-natural heritage of areas that face sudden environmental changes
  • Perception of various models of natural resource management, including large mammals
  • Building the agency of environmental interest groups
  • The theory of conflicts related to the functioning of protected areas

2. A student interested in completing your Master thesis in our team. Among many others, we have already supervised the following works:

  • Should European bison be a wild species? A q-method study of conservation experts' views on the goals of bison restitution and reintroduction programs
  • Perception of single-use plastic among baristas and customers of specialty coffee shops during the COVID-19 pandemic – a comparative study between Poland, Peru, and the UK
  • Protection of European bison in Poland - the role of breeding farms in European bison restitution and education about the species

3. A person or a representative of an institution interested in popularizing socio-environmental scientific issues.

  • We organize campaigns to raise awareness of environmental problems
  • We organize scientific research using the so-called citizen science approach,
  • We conduct lessons, lectures, workshops and science communication trainings,
  • We moderate consultation meetings
  • We take part in popular-science events
  • We publish popular science publications
  • We participate in applied science projects by implementing the environmental education work packages
  • We actively participate in various policy councils
