Our project aims to develop the Multispecies Urban Justice (MUJ) research framework. This model seeks to balance the needs of human and non-human species while contributing to increased biodiversity and inclusiveness in urban environments. The MUJ model is based on the principles of environmental justice and examines the impact of multispecies representation in informal green spaces (IGS) on justice-related values, such as opportunities for contact with nature and interactions with wildlife, while fostering ecological mutualism. The project is funded by the National Science Centre (NCN) under the OPUS 25 program (project number 2023/49/B/HS4/00721).  

This research aligns with the EU’s research policy, supporting innovative, resilient, and sustainable societies. Under the European Green Deal, the EU promotes biodiversity restoration and urban greening in cities with over 20,000 inhabitants.

Our research framework complements these efforts by offering overlooked alternatives in urban planning.  We advocate for multispecies justice and access to nature in urban planning, encouraging the design of multifunctional informal green spaces (IGS) to enhance the resilience of urban ecosystems.  The study addresses the "trans-temporal" and "trans-spatial" dimensions of environmental degradation. We will highlights the role of the environment in political activism, promoting multispecies justice as a key component of green politics.
